The Burnt River is a river in the Canadian province of Ontario.

It has its origins in Miskwabi Lake in the Township Highlands East Haliburton in the County. From there it flows south to the Kawartha Lakes region. Finally, it flows into the Cameron Lake in the City of Kawartha Lakes. It therefore constitutes an important source of water for the Trent -Severn Waterway, which runs through the Kawartha Lakes. The place Burnt River is located near the mouth of Burnt River.

The Burnt River was once used for rafts of logs felled in the catchment area to the outflow located sawmills. Later, the Victoria Railway was built along the river. The route of the former railway line is now used as a hiking trail.

Its name ( "Burnt " is the English word for " burned" ) owes the river a forest fire in the region, the Burnt River gave an unusual color.

Fauna

Among the three most important food fish in the river include walleye, muskellunge and smallmouth bass. The fish do not reach the size as their counterparts in the nearby lakes.
