Burundian Genocide

A genocide in Burundi since the independence of Burundi took place twice in 1962, in both cases as a result of violent, ethnic clashes between ethnic groups Hutu and the Tutsi. In 1972 it came under President Michel Micombero systematic massacres of the civilian population by the Tutsi-dominated army, which the majority of the Hutu in the country fell victim. In 1993, the assassination of Hutu President Melchior Ndadaye descent were carried out numerous massacres of the Tutsi civilian population by ethnic Hutus in a row. Offenders here were both civilians and militias. Both events meet, according to the International Commission of Inquiry for Burundi of the United States Institute of Peace, the criteria for a genocide.
