Butch Miles

Butch Miles ( born July 4, 1944 in Ironton, Ohio) is an American jazz drummer.

Life

Butch Miles grew up in West Virginia, began at age 14 to care for drums and then took lessons from Frank Thompson in Charleston. At first, he played in dance bands in 1971 began his jazz career at Mel Tormes band. In addition to frequent obligations for the Count Basie Big Band since 1975 he accompanied since then for a wide range of jazz musicians such as Wild Bill Davison to Gerry Mulligan. In 1980 he accompanied the singer Tony Bennett. His idol was Sonny Payne of the Count Basie Big Band. He plays in the tradition of swing drummer Jo Jones or as Gus Johnson.
