Butnan District
Al - Butnan, Arabic البطنان, DMG al - Buṭnān, is a Munizip, located in the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Libya. It is bordered to the east by Egypt. Capital of Munizips is Tobruk.
Geography
Throughout the area of al - Butnan lived in 2003 still 144 527 people, of whom 84 per cent ( 121 052 inhabitants as of 2005) in the capital city of Tobruk ( طبرق ). The Munizip covers an area of 83,860 km ² and consists, like the majority of Libya's desert. al - Butnan bordering the Mediterranean Sea and Munizipen following:
- Darna - Northwest
- Munizip al - Wahat - West
- Munizip al - Kufra - South
In the East, al - Butnan adjacent to the Egyptian ( Matruh governorate ).
Significant places besides Tobruk and Bardia are Dscharabub ( al Jaghbub ).
History
Al - Butnan and especially the capital Tobruq played an important role for the colonial power Italy in World War II.
