Butterkuchen

Butter cake or sugar cake ( also in Mecklenburg Plate cake) is one of the " fine baked goods " and is a sheet cake made ​​of yeast dough with a circulation of knobs of butter and sugar. On the dough butter flakes are the typical hollows after baking. Frequently toasted flaked almonds or chopped nuts are sprinkled on the cake. Butter cake is a popular part of the North German coffee table, as he is known in the Netherlands and Denmark. In southern Germany, he is a part of the home kitchen and is also offered in coffee houses. In Lower Saxony and Westphalia butter cake is also an integrated part of all important family events: it is served to the christening, for Confirmation, wedding and funeral, and is therefore sometimes referred to as Freud and Grief cake or funeral cakes.
