BWF World Ranking

The Badminton World Ranking is issued by the Badminton World Federation World Ranking of all male and female players in the badminton sport. In the Badminton World Ranking all earned at official BWF tournaments points are added up to give the position of the players in the rankings. The Badminton World Ranking is updated each Thursday on the website of the BWF.

For each discipline, the same points breakdown applies. In the doubles each gets the double pairing the points and not every player individually.

After this world ranking players are placed in the international tournaments.

Historical Development

The first world ranking was published in 1981. It was determined from 13 tournaments. First, the ranking was done only in the individual disciplines, later it was extended to the double disciplines. Likewise, followed by a steady increase in the number of used to establish tournaments.
