Cabane Giovanni Gnifetti

Capanna Giovanni Gnifetti, also known as Rifugio Gnifetti, is a farmed alpine mountain hut on the south side of the Monte Rosa massif at an altitude of 3647 m slm.

General

The Gnifetti hut, situated on a rocky ridge between the Garstelet Glacier and the Lysgletscher is direct starting point for one-day ascents of the highest peaks of Monte Rosa massif, such as Vincent Pyramid ( 4215 m), Dufour (4634 m), Parrotspitze ( 4463 m) or Signalkuppe ( 4554 m).

The hut was built in 1876 and up to the present time often rebuilt and extended. The cabin is owned by the section Varallo of the Club Alpino Italiano ( CAI), is managed by mid-March to early May and mid-June to mid-September and offers in this time 176 climbers sleeps. In the remaining time of the year, the winter room with 14 camps open.

Additions

You reach the hut from the village of Alagna take the cable car up to the Passo dei Salati. From there, the trail on the Stolemberg and Punta Indren leads in about 2 hours on the Indren to Rifugio.

Another approach is from Gressoney in the Lys Valley on Gabiet, at high light past the Rifugio Città di Mantova, from where you can look at the nearly 200 -meter higher Gnifetti Hut.
