History

In 1862 came on July 8, the British Hereford Brooke George and George and Adolphus Warburton Moore, together with the guides Christian Almer and Matthias Zumtaugwald from Switzerland on the east wall of the Parrotspitze to Abschlussgrat just below the summit before, returned there to however.

The following year, succeeded on August 16, the mountain guides Melchior Anderegg and Peter Perren with their customers Reginald S. Macdonald, Florence Crauford Grove, Montagu Wood Mass and William Edward Hall, the actual first ascent of the summit dome over the west ridge. Your route is now considered normal route to the summit.

Is named the summit after Johann Jacob Friedrich Wilhelm Parrot, a German physicist and physician.

Routes

  • The normal route follows the route of the first ascent on the west ridge. Starting point of the glacier tour is the Gnifettihütte ( 3647 m slm ) in Italy, which is achieved via the Rifugio Città di Mantova. From there on most existing track in 2 ½ hours to Piodejoch ( 4'283 m above sea level. M. ) at the Ludwig height. From there in another 30 minutes NO direction on the west ridge and on this (up to 40 ° steep) to the summit. In winter and spring is the most common Skianstieg this route dar.
  • On the Swiss side of the west ridge of the Monte Rosa Hut ( 2,795 m above sea level. M. ) from over the border Glacier can be reached. This route is, however, committed less frequently.
  • Because of the small distances in the Monte Rosa floor the Parrotspitze is often visited as part of exceedances. An example of this is the rise over the normal route and thereafter the descent via the northeast ridge to the Seserjoch ( 4'296 m above sea level. M. ) and from there the re- ascent to signal mountain with the Capanna Regina Margherita. (Also in the reverse direction of the feasible signal from hilltop to Gnifettihütte. ) With little additional effort, it is possible the rise of the Gnifettihütte the Balmenhorn, the Ludwig height or black horn to pass.
