Friedrich Parrot

Johann Jacob Friedrich Wilhelm Parrot ( born October 14, 1792 in Karlsruhe, .. † 3 Januarjul / January 15 1841greg in Dorpat ) was a deutschbaltischer naturalist and explorer. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Parrot".

Life

Friedrich Parrot was the son of the physicist and university teacher Georg Friedrich Parrot (1767-1852) was born. He studied medicine from 1807 to 1814 at the Imperial University of Dorpat (now Tartu University ). In the same year he received a doctorate in med et chir. 1816 Parrot member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences.

Parrot undertook 1811/12 with Moritz von Engelhardt a mineralogical trip to the Crimea and the Caucasus and put on this barometric altitude measurements between the Black and the Caspian basin. 1815 Parrot staff physician in the Russian army, toured in the wake southern Europe and in 1821 professor of physiology, pathology, and semiotics, later ( 1826) also in physics at the University of Tartu. 1830/31 he was Vice-Rector of the University of Tartu and 1831-1834 rector.

In 1829 he traveled on behalf of the Russian government, the Caucasus and Armenia, which had come in the wake of the Russo- Turkish war just under Russian control. As part of this journey, he climbed on 9 October 1829 in search of Noah's ark, together with Russian officers and Armenians first Mount Ararat. Among the participants, there was also Chatschatur Abovyan.

1837 Parrot took a trip to the North Cape. The publication of the results of this last trip was prevented by long ill-health and early death.

After the lunar crater Parrot Parrot, the Parrot peak, the peak Parrot and the Parrotia are persica named.
