Cabernet Mitos

Cabernet Mitos is a German, newly grown red grape variety. It originated from the crossing of varieties Gamay and Teinturier du Cher. The original information of breeders Helmut Schleip and Bernd HE Hill, if it were a cross between Gamay and Cabernet Sauvignon, could be disproved by a DNA analysis in the meantime.

It was introduced in 1970 by the National Training and Research Institute of Pomology and Viticulture in Weinsberg. On 24 January 2001 the plant variety right was granted to the Federal Office of Plant Varieties. Since then, the vineyard is constantly increasing. In Germany 320 hectares ( = 0.3 % of German vineyards ) were planted with the grape variety Cabernet Mitos in 2007. In 2006 317 hectares were planted after at least 102 acres were collected in 2001. The berries of grapes dyer not only have a red skin, but also red instead of gray or colorless flesh, so that a significant proportion of red color pigments present in the juice, which makes the resulting wine vinified particularly strong color. The color pigments are present throughout the plant tissue. This also leaves to dye relatively early red. Cabernet Mitos is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ).
