Geographical location

The wine region Nahe, which will operate as a separate wine area in Rhineland -Palatinate only since 1971, extends from the mouth of the Middle upriver until shortly before Kirn as well as in the side valleys of guilders Bach, Gräfenbach, Glan and Alsenz. To the northwest it is protected through the Hunsrück, north through the Taunus Mountains, southeast lies the North Palatine Uplands. Economic center of the wine region is the spa town of Bad Kreuznach.

Soils

The wine region Nahe Germany far boast the largest soil diversity and engräumigsten change. More than 180 soil types are suspected and currently being investigated in a project. Due to this geological diversity, it occupies a special position: quartz and slate floors are found on the lower, porphyry, melaphyre and sandstone at the middle Nahe. Around Bad Kreuznach, there are residual soils and Tonüberlagerungen of sandstone, loess and clay. The vineyards are mostly located in flat and hilly areas. Only a small proportion, mainly in the area around Bad Munster am Stein, are steep slopes. Especially the Riesling brings forth here very mineral, elegant wines.

Varieties

75 % of the vineyards are planted with white varieties.

In the spectrum of varieties of white wines Riesling dominate ( 27.3 %) and Müller -Thurgau (about 13.4 %). In addition to a significant extent be dornfelder (10.8%), Silvaner (6.5%), Pinot Noir (5.9%), Pinot Blanc (5.5%), Pinot Gris (5.3%) and Kerner (4, 5%) grown.
