Domina (grape)

Domina is a red grape variety, a new breed of Peter Morio from 1927 from a cross of Blue Portugal and Pinot Noir for the Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof. Treated breeding she has in the 1950s, Bernhard Husfeld. The entry in the list of varieties carried out in 1974. The details of the breeder to the crossing parents could be confirmed in the meantime by DNA analysis.

The variety has good frost resistance. The wines are very dark, dye- rich and is also suitable as a top wines in general. In good locations extract rich wines with high tannin content can occur. Location and by year due the acid values ​​can be relatively high. Domina is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. The main distribution area of the species is especially the wine region Franconia. In 2007 404 hectares ( = 0.4 % of German vineyards ) were planted with the variety dominatrix in Germany. The area is constant for several years. In 2006 395 hectares were planted after already 187 hectares were collected in 1999.
