Monzingen

Monzingen is a municipality in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bad Sobernheim. Monzingen is a 1200 year old wine-growing community in the middle Nahe and a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

Monzingen is located in a side valley of the middle Nahe, which is drained by the Gaulsbach. In the north, east and west of the city is surrounded by 250-300 m high mountains, to the south the valley opens towards the close.

The center is the 200 m high Kirchberg with the coming of the 13th century church of St. Martin. The houses are located along a gently sloping to the east from the west slope. The recent construction projects are mostly on the eastern mountain toward the walnut and tower above the old town center with its historic buildings. To the south, in the Nahe valley, beyond the national road 41 and the railway line Bingen- Saarbrücken is the commercial area, sports facilities and one of the largest campgrounds in the Nahe Valley.

The surrounding hillsides are covered with mixed forest or are mostly used on the southern slopes for growing grapes. Some have long abandoned vineyards on the mountain slopes are covered by a bush. History

The first mention Monzingens goes back to a donation by vineyards to the Lorsch Abbey in 778.

Culture and sights

In the historical center there are several magnificent half-timbered houses from the 16th century. A landmark of the city is the Alt'sche house, which was built in 1589.
