Findling

Findling is a white grape variety. It is a mutation of the Müller -Thurgau, which was selected by Franz Kimmig in Oberkirch 1971. It is only very occasionally grown in Baden and Mosel -Saar -Ruwer. The Plant Variety Protection and the entry in the list of varieties were still taken in 1971. Classified she was then 1972.

The grapes are a bit more mature than that of Müller- Thurgau and the yield is about 30 % lower at higher must weight. The grape has less bouquet as the Müller-Thurgau and provides light and neutral wines that are prone to rapid aging. If, however, mostly used for the production of grape juice or as part of a wine cuvees.

The grape boulder has nothing to do with the eponymous synonym for the variety Bouvier.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy medium strong white wool. The young leaves are green and slightly mottled bronze ( Anthocyanflecken ).
  • The small to medium-sized leaves are indented five lobes moderately deep. The petiole is slightly overlapping closed. The sheet is cut sharply. The teeth are coarse in comparison to the varieties. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is moderately blistered.
  • The grape is medium sized and moderately dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of a yellow-green color.

The boulder drives from mid-late and is therefore not very sensitive to any late spring frosts. In moderately good wood maturity of the boulder reaches only a medium- good winter hardiness. The variety is moderately susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew as well as against gray mold.
