Freisamer

Freisamer is a white grape variety. It is a new breed of Silvaner and Pinot Gris. The details of the breeder could be confirmed in the meantime by DNA analysis. Freisamer was bred in 1916 by Karl Mueller at the State Institute of Viticulture in Freiburg im Breisgau, so the variety was also named to 1958 Freiburg. Breeding goal was to improve the then very profitable fluctuating Pinot Gris. The entry in the list of varieties carried out in 1956.

Today was the Pinot Gris, which it resembles more than the Silvaner in taste, largely prevail against the Freisamer why the cultivation, declining. This trend was made ​​possible by a clonal selection of high-yield stable Graubugundervarianten.

Dissemination

Smaller areas are, for example in Baden, Württemberg, in the Palatinate, on the Nahe and found in various Swiss cantons. Having been in Germany for a further 12 hectares under vine were collected in 2001, the area was in 2007 to only 4 hectares.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is dense white wool, almost tomentose pubescent with slightly reddish approach. The yellowish young leaves are also very hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are usually three to five lobes and weakly sinuate. The petiole is V-shaped and closed. The blade is serrated blunt. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is soft and bubbly. The structure of the bubbles is arranged in a circle around the stem end.
  • The cylindrical grape is small and dichtbeerig. The oblong berries are small to medium in size and of a yellowish - green color. The shell of the berry is thick. The aroma of the berry is almost neutral.
