Cachucha

The Cachucha is a Spanish ( Andalusian ) solo dance in 3/4- or 3/8-time similar to the Bolero. He is originally from the province of Cádiz and is listed both by women and by men.

The dance is usually accompanied by rhythmic beating of castanets and stomping of heels. In the 19th century Cachucha was a popular stage dance throughout Europe. Especially the Austrian dancer Fanny Elssler gained with their performance in the Cachucha Casimir Gide's ballet Le Diable boiteux ( The Limping Devil, 1836) fame and created a sensation. They contributed greatly to the success of the dance.
