Province

Cacongo is a district on the Atlantic Ocean in the Cabinda enclave belonging to Angola. The lagoon Lagoa Massabi located in the district Cacongo.

History

In 1941 the Portuguese colonial power created the circle based in Vila Guilherme Capelo. After independence, Angola, Cabinda to the now belonged, the place in Landana was renamed, and the district was named Cacongo derived from the resident of the Bakongo ethnic group.

Attack on January 8, 2010

On January 8, 2010, two days before the African Cup start in 2010, the FLEC committed in Munizip Cacongo, near the border with the Republic of Congo, a terrorist attack on the team bus of the Togo national football team, as the team on the way to their first game was in the stadium Estádio Nacional de Chiazi in Cabinda. They killed three members of the Togolese delegation, including the assistant coach Amelete abalone, and injured more players and coaches. Togo does not then took part in the African Cup.
