Caffitaly

Caffita is a process developed in Italy by the partners Gaggia and Ecaffe for the home -serving system for espresso and coffee. The coffee maker is known in some countries under the name Caffitaly. In Germany and Austria the Caffitaly system was mainly known by the Cafissimo machines from Tchibo and Eduscho. In 2005 Caffita was a co-sponsor of the former cycling team Lampre- Caffita. At the start of the 2006 season Caffita was replaced by Fondital as co-sponsor of Lampre.

Construction

The round Caffita capsules consist mainly of plastic and are sealed at the top with aluminum foil, on which the Caffita logo is located. The capsules contain between two plastic sieves 8 g of coffee or espresso powder. When inserting into the machine, the capsule is perforated above and below by Dorne, later, the hot water flows through to your requirements. With different degrees of grinding and - on some machines - programs arises in each capsule the correct pressure for the different varieties, so that with Caffita machines next to Espresso coffee can also be prepared.

Machinery

Machines for Caffita system are offered by different manufacturers, including the evolution Caffita Gaggia ( a classic Siebträgermaschine with a adapted to the capsules portafilter) that have very similar Cafissimo Tchibo, in which the filter holder was replaced by a lever mechanism, and a number of machines of Princess, among others Princess Silver Caffita 201E.

Coffees

For the Caffita capsule system, there are currently four coffee and espresso roast Tchibo and six espresso roasts of Ecaffe. In Italy and Austria since the end of 2006, there are other providers ( Caffè Cagliari, Caffè Chicco d' Oro ), the capsules are so far not offered outside the country. The prices of the portions are the end of 2006 20 to 30 cents.

In Austria there since the beginning of 2013 also compatible capsules of Julius Meinl.

Criticism

In the Critique coffee systems are due to the so-called lock-in. This means that the cost for each coffee machines are low, the subsequent costs for the coffee pods for it - partly by a multiple - higher than that of conventional coffee.

The systems are not compatible with each other, for each system are different pods, or capsules required. Originally, these were only available from the respective manufacturer what the choices very restricted. Meanwhile, however, also coffee servings from other vendors are available.

Another not to be underestimated disadvantage is the resulting amount of waste generated by the composite packaging the coffee capsules.
