Gaggia

Gaggia is an Italian manufacturer of household appliances, especially of equipment for coffee and espresso preparation. To the product range include espresso machines for home and professional use, automatic coffee machines, coffee grinders and Kaffeepadsysteme.

History

Giovanni Achille Gaggia filed a patent in 1938 for a piston system, which enabled him to force water under pressure through ground coffee. The result was an espresso with a frothy crown, known as crema. Gaggia put the method first in his coffee bar in Milan.

It was not until 1947/48, he founded the company of the same, which initially produced only espresso machines for professional use. In 1977, the product portfolio was expanded to include devices for the household, which is also the core business today. 1999 was acquired by the Italian manufacturer Saeco coffee machines with 60 % majority to Gaggia, since July 2009, Saeco (and thus Gaggia ) a part of the Philips Group. In September 2013 Gaggia renewed its market position and presents a new brand logo.
