Cairo (Band)
Cairo is a progressive rock band that was founded in the early 1990s in San Francisco, USA. The band released four albums and numerous contributions to compilations of their record company. It stands in the tradition of earlier progressive rock bands like Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer and combines organ and keyboard -heavy sounds with modern rock.
History
The founding members were Mark Robertson (keyboards), Alec Fuhrman ( electric guitar, vocals), Jeff Brockman (drums), Rob Fordyce ( electric bass) and Bret Douglas ( vocals). The debut album of the same name was recorded in the home studio of the band. It appeared in 1994 at the renowned progressive rock record label Magna Carta. Then strong influences of progressive rock bands like Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Yes were observed. During the two years of work on his successor Conflict and Dreams Fordyce bassist left the band. Work continued with Jamie Browne. The album was released in 1998. Though the overall sound is not much different from its predecessor, to compositions as well as the production featured much more complex dar. 2000 also left the band guitarist Fuhrman. In June 2001, date last album Time of Legends appeared.

Reception
Cairo has been reviewed by the Publications mostly positive, but early criticisms were an initially immature style and insufficient autonomy.

Subsequent reviews of the certified tape an increasing maturation and successful combination between progressive rock greats of the 1970s and a catchy, contemporary and at the same time new sound.
