Cala Millor

Cala Millor ( "Best Bay ") is a touristic place on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. It lies on the east coast of the island in the region ( comarca ) Llevant.

Cala Millor has 6537 inhabitants ( 2011). The northern Cala Millor belongs to the municipality of Son Servera, the southern district of newer towards the Punta de n 'Amer peninsula to the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. The border between the two communities located on the Carrer de sa Figuera and Carrer de Sol Naixent.

Location

Cala Millor is located 64 km from Palma and 17 km from Manacor on the bay of Son Servera ( Badia de Son Servera), is a major sea inlet of the east coast of Majorca, between Cap des Pinar in the north and the south of peninsula of Punta de n 'Amer. The name of the bay also Badia d' Arta is still in use, dating from a time when the church today Son Servera, Capdepera and Arta Arta formed the greater community.

The development of the place goes north along the Carrer de la Magnolia in the neighboring village of Cala Bona, which has the nearest harbor. To the south Cala Millor has been expanded in recent decades gradually until the beginning of the Punta de n 'Amer peninsula on the Cala Nau. The locations Son Moro and Son Moro Bonavista were collected, so that today only spoken generally of the town of Cala Millor. Son Moro and Son Moro Bonavista, however, still be detected in the population of the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar as separate places.

The western border of Cala Millor is the road MA- 4027 from Cala Bona to Porto Cristo. The closed building of the tourist town but has not yet reached the street. History

The first cultivations originated around the year 1930. 1934 Built Jaume Vicens Andreu, the first hotel establishment, the Hotel Eureka, which laid the foundation was laid for today's tourist center. In 1958 the Hotel Sabina and then several hotels, shops and restaurants were opened.

Auditòrium Sat Màniga

Opened in 1999, Congress and Culture Centre ( Auditorium) of Cala Millor is located on the territory of the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar on the Carrer de Son Galta 4 large function hall can accommodate 472 spectators. In addition, there are other rooms as well as an exhibition space.

Beach

The sandy beach of Cala Millor stretches over a length of 1,800 meters and has an average width of 30 to 35 meters. He is busy during the season. The former dunes behind the beach were built over a boardwalk and located behind hotels, shops and restaurants. The beach is geographically, historically and administratively divided into four sections:

  • Cala Millor ( Arenal de Son Servera )
  • Cala Millor ( Platja de Sant Llorenç )
  • Son Moro ( Platja de Sant Llorenç )
  • Cala Nau

The northernmost stretch of beach is due to the community membership referred to Son Servera as Arenal de Son Servera. It is about 400 meters long and lies directly on the bay of Cala Millor. Here was the first hotel of the place, he is the starting point of the settlement history of Cala Millor.

The south joins the Platja de Sant Llorenç. It is 1,200 meters long and was named as the beach of the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. His repeated division into two approximately equal segments is based architectural history and location related. The northern section of the Platja de Sant Llorenç is still partially in the Cala Millor. Behind him is the town of Son Moro Bonavista, due to the first southern extension of the tourist resort on the area of Sant Llorenç now virtually a suburb of Cala Millor.

By the later repeated settlement expansion towards Punta de n 'Amer also the place Son Moro was recognized by Cala Millor. Son Moro is located around the area of today's Parc de la Mar. The local section of the Platja de Sant Llorenç, as Estanyol d'en Roig called, none of the adjacent bays Cala Millor and Cala Nau assign.

The Cala Nau forms the southern end of the beach of Cala Millor. The 200 -meter long beach merges into the rocky coast of Punta de n 'Amer peninsula at its end. The coastline pivots from the south exposure of the beach to the east, thus forming the small bay.

Markets

Since 2007, there is a weekly market one, currently at Carrer de Na Penyal instead. Market day is Since 2013, Monday, in the then closed to traffic, road goods are offered to the, mostly aimed at the needs of the tourists.

Festivals

On 2 August each year, the name day of the patron saint of the town is celebrated in Cala Millor.

The tourist festivals take place during the last week of September of each year. They were created with the intention to extend the summer tourist season. Various concerts, dance or sports events are organized. The conclusion is a beach fireworks on the Festival weekend be decided.
