Callipogon relictus

Callipogon relictus is a beetle belonging to the family of longhorn beetles ( Cerambycidae ).

Features

The beetles are 58-108 millimeters long. Note the large, pincer-like mandibles, are reminiscent of those of the stag beetle ( Lucanidae ).

Dissemination

Callipogon relictus is the only representative of its genus in the Far East. It occurs in eastern Siberia, northeastern China and North and South Korea.

Way of life

The female lays more than 20 eggs on the bark of trees such as Japanese chestnut oak (Quercus acutissima ), the Siberian elm ( Ulmus pumila ) or Carpinus laxiflora.
