Callisto (Band)

Callisto is a Finnish band from Turku, whose music is mostly attributed to the Post Metal. Their first releases were influenced by post-hardcore bands like Neurosis and Breach, but also elements of Sludge, Doom and Black Metal can be found. On the last album to date, the Providence Metal elements were reduced.

Typical of the style of the band are long instrumental passages, the use of more unusual instruments such as saxophone genre or oboe and the influences of jazz. Her lyrics are influenced by Christian themes.

2008, the singer Jani Ala- Hukkala was added to the band, which now brings in addition to the shouts of Markus Myllykangas also clear vocals. This supplement of the occupation leads to a much more solid front role of singing in the band's music. Myllykangas focused on the guitar. Even the music was based more on progressive rock and the music of the 1970s. As inspiration, the band Opeth, King Crimson and Landberk stated. The reviews of Providence fell out rather mixed. There was criticism of the loss of hardness and the monotony of the song, some comparisons were drawn to pop music. Was praised above all the atmosphere of the album.
