Callitris verrucosa is a plant belonging to the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). It is native to southeastern Australia.

Description

Callitris verrucosa grows as evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach heights of growth of up to 8 meters. Several strains are usually configured. The walk upright branches from the trunk.

The green to gray- green leaves are 2 to 4 millimeters long. Your back is rounded.

The male cones are in groups on the branches and are at a length of up to 5 millimeters cylindrically shaped. The egg-shaped to spherical female cones are individually or in groups, have a stalk and are 2 to 2.5 inches thick. Each pin consists of six thick, finely warty cone scales and bears numerous seeds. They remain after ripening for several years on the branches before they laid off and drop the seeds. The dark brown seeds are about 4 millimeters in size and have two or three blades.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Callitris verrucosa is located in western New South Wales, the north-western Victoria, southern Queensland and the south-eastern South Australia. It extends from there Nymagee in the east to Darling Downs to the north and Swan Hill to the northern Nullarbor desert in the west. However, west of the Eyre Peninsula, it occurs only sporadically.

Callitris verrucosa grows mainly on hills with red desert sand.

Callitris verrucosa is classified as " not at risk " in the IUCN Red List. It is noted, however, that a re-examination of risk is necessary.

System

The first description was in 1825 as Frenela verrucosa by Allan Cunningham in Mémoires du Muséum d' Histoire Naturelle, Volume 13, page 74 Ferdinand von Mueller transferred the species in 1882 in Systematic Census of Australian Plants ..., page 109 as Callitris verrucosa in the genus Callitris. Verrucosa synonyms for Callitris (A. Cunn. Mirb ex. ) F. Muell. are Callitris preissii subsp. verrucosa (A. Cunn. Mirb ex. ) F. Muell. and Callitris verrucosa var preissii (A. Cunn. Mirb ex. ) J. Silba.

The species forms natural hybrids with Callitris glaucophylla.
