Description

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 25 to 32 mm. On top of all the wings are almost without markings brown, sometimes dusted slightly reddish. The underside of the wing is divided into two different colored areas; in a light brown Postdiskal - and Submarginalregion and reddish-brown to black-brown Diskal and basal region. The areas are partially separated from each other by a white line. On the hindwing underside of an outwardly strong bulge can also be seen in the middle. Above the Tornus there is a very short tail. Egg

The pale green eggs are covered with many whitish longitudinal ribs. They are laid singly on the food plants.

Caterpillar

Full-grown caterpillars are short and approximated assel shaped. You have a greenish ground color with some bumps on the back and come with light, rear-facing horizontal stripes. Immediately before pupation they take on a reddish-brown color.

Similar Species

The similar species Callophrys augustinus and Callophrys Polios point to the wing underside darker and lower-contrast drawing elements. Callophrys irus differs by a blunt tail on the hind wings.

Distribution and habitat

Callophrys henrici comes in the south of the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and to the southeast partially incomplete in the United States to Florida and Texas before. The species prefers to live in dry, open forest landscapes.
