Calystegia subacaulis

Calystegia subacaulis is a species of the genus of the fence winds ( Calystegia ) from the family of wind plants ( Convolvulaceae ). The species is widespread endemic to California.

Description

Calystegia subacaulis is a more or less hairy, perennial plant that forms a rhizome or a woody caudex as Überdauerungsorgan. The stems are prostrate or ascending, and are 2-20 cm long. The leaf blade has a length of 3 to 4 cm, more or less triangular- shaped spear and occasionally covered with small, backward -looking cloth. Forward the leaves are pointed or rounded, the base is tapered.

The inflorescence stems are up to 3.3 cm long and thus are not above the surrounding foliage leaves out. The bracts are 7-17 mm long, 4-9 mm wide, broadly ovate to lanceolate or elongated. They sit just below the calyx and then include it. The sepals are 10 to 13 mm long. The crown is white or off-white, often tinged purple at the central veins of the petals. It is 33-62 mm long.

Dissemination

The species is endemic to California in the southern North Coast Ranges, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the average Outer South Coast Ranges common. It grows in dry, open shrub or timber land.
