Camiel Eurlings

Camiel Eurlings ( born September 16, 1973 in Valkenburg - Houthem ) is a Dutch politician of the party Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ). He was from 2007 to 2010 Minister of Transport of the Netherlands.

Life

Camiel Eurlings After leaving school, Technical Business Administration at the Technical University of Eindhoven and earned his engineering degree there in 1998. During his studies he was involved in research projects of Canon Ing Baraki in Japan and DSM Research in Geleen. He is Chairman of the Robert Schuman Institute and member of the Executive Board of the European Ideas Network.

Policy

From 1994 to 1998 he sat for the CDA as a member of the council of Valkenburg aan de Geul and changed from 1998 to 2004 as a member of the Dutch House of Representatives. From July 2004 to 2007 he was a member of the European Parliament and there deputy leader of the European People's Party and European Democrats.

22 February 2007 to 14 October 2010, he was Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water in the fourth Balkenende government. He was the youngest cabinet minister.

At times Eurlings has been proposed as a successor to Jan- Peter Balkenende as leader of the CDA. To the surprise of many, however, he was on 11 March 2010 that he no longer competes for the elections to the Second Chamber on 9 June 2010 and is about to retire from politics. The reason he said that they want to have more time for his private life.

Private

He was received by Queen Beatrix of the Order of Orange- Nassau. In 2010 he received the accolade for the Knights of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
