Camp Casablanca

The Camp Casablanca from 1999 to 2012, a military base of the Austrian army in Suva Reka in Südkosovo as part of the KFOR deployment. The Camp Casablanca was originally built by the German army as a camp for the Task Force Dulje in autumn 1999, an Austrian-Swiss unit, the part of the then Multinational Brigade South was ( MNB -S). It housed 25 Austrian KFOR contingents and for a long time in terms of team numbers of about 560 soldiers of the greatest reference point of the armed forces abroad. Throughout the period around 10,000 army troops were stationed at the camp.

In the camp, a headquarters company and two infantry companies were with their Pandur Radpanzern. In addition, the mechanized infantry platoon of Swiss KFOR contingent ( Swisscoy ) and elements of the army were housed. An infantry company was dissolved in 2012 and the accommodation building relocated to another camp in Kosovo. Equipment

In the camp there were a chapel, a Greißlerladen ( PX Store), a sports field, a tennis court, a climbing wall, sauna and fire water pond of the Camp Fire. The Camp Chapel was built by the Swiss contingent and inaugurated in the summer of 2000 by the military bishop for Austria Christian Werner. The accommodation consisted of gray white containers, five in a row, two over each other, which were protected with a mounted wooden roof from rain. Civil use

The fire place in the camp jargon " Tegetthof Square ", was named after the Austrian Vice- Admiral William Tegetthoff and served, among other ceremonial purposes such as the flag parades or the awarding of the NATO Non- Article 5 Medal. The last flag ceremony took place on 17 March 2012, which from the camp after twelve years marked the end of military presence with the departure of the last Austrian Forces troops.

On August 17, 2012, the Camp Casablanca was handed over in a ceremony on UNMIK to the municipality of Suva Reka, which plans on the grounds of an industrial and business park, education institutions, a marketplace and a sports center.
