Campe

Kampe (Greek Καμπή actually " curvature " here: " Caterpillar" ) in Greek mythology, a female monster, the Cyclops and Hekatonchires guarded on the Kronos command in Tartarus. When Zeus needed the help of the imprisoned in the struggle against the Titans, he slew the Kampe.

An imaginative description of the monster can be found in the Dionysiaca of Nonnus of Panopolis:

It has been suggested that the Kampe described by Nonnus was a redesigned Babylonian Tiamat. Probably Kampe was identified with the Echidna, who in any case is similar to the description of her. Their appearance resembles a centaur, only she is female, sitting on a dragon and her legs are wrapping up. Just like the Medusa snake hair she has and how she wears a belt of live animals, which changes constantly.

In the lexicon of Hesychius of Alexandria ( K.614 ), it is noted that the poet has described the Epicharmos Kampe as keto, ie as a sea monster.

According to Diodorus Kampe was killed not by Zeus, but of Dionysus.
