Can Bartu

Can Bartu ( born January 30, 1936 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football and basketball players. He was the first and to date, only Turkish athlete who both wore the national jersey in football as well as playing basketball.

Career

He began his career at Fenerbahce as a basketball player and played six times for the national team. Fikret Arıcan recognized his talent and helped him to keep going at Fenerbahçe as a football player, with success. 28 times he played in the Turkish national football team and moved even to Italy (1961 Fiorentina, AC 1962 Venice, 1964 Lazio Rome). With Fiorentina he played as the first Turkish footballer 1962 final of the European Cup Winners' Cup. He was thus the first Turkish footballer, who played a European Cup final. He also won in the years 1959, 1961, 1968 and 1970 with Fenerbahce, the Turkish championship. In total he scored 162 goals in 330 games for Fenerbahçe.

1970, after three years at Fenerbahçe, Bartu ended his career. He now works as a sports journalist for the daily newspaper Hürriyet.

The Traininsgelände on which completed the football team Fenerbahçe their workout routine, has been named after him, the " Can Bartu Tesisleri ".
