Canaan (Tobago)

Canaan is a small, rural town in the southwest of the Caribbean island of Tobago in the Parish of Saint Patrick. At the 2000 census it had 1,706 inhabitants.

It is about 2 kilometers from the beach and is located east of Crown Point Crown Point and near the airport. The nearest ferry port is 8 km to the east island capital Scarborough.

In the village and in the surrounding area there are several historic sugar mills, which are usually developed as a hotel or restaurant.

Canaan is the birthplace of football star Dwight Yorke.
