Canal through Zuid-Beveland

The channel through Zuid- Beveland crosses the Dutch Zuid- Beveland Peninsula and connects the Westerschelde with the Eastern Scheldt, and was created 1850-1866 and has a length of about 9 km. More channels are located at the eastern end of the peninsula, the Scheldt - Rhine Canal, and at the southwest end of the channel through Walcheren. Both waterways provide a boat service from Antwerp to the Rhine. In the 19th century the canal was one of the busiest canals in Europe. The A58 expressway passes under the canal through the Vlaketunnel.
