Çankaya Köşkü

The Çankaya Köşkü ( German Çankaya villa ) is the official residence of the President of the Republic of Turkey. It is located in the district of Çankaya the capital Ankara. The name is sometimes used as a metonym for the current president. The site covers the Çankaya Presidential Palace with its 1.77 km ² land. The Çankaya - terrain houses the Museum Villa of the country's founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the Office of the Chief Aide -de- Camp, the Pink Villa, the Glass Villa and new office buildings, including the State Board, reception halls and a press conference hall. There are also sports fields, a fire station, a greenhouse and the barracks of the presidential guard.

The Köşk was inaugurated on October 29, 1923, the day the Republic, of the nation's founder, Mustafa Kemal Pasha. The palace is now occupied by President Abdullah Gül and his wife Hayrünnisa Gül.

History

Until the genocide of the Armenians in 1915, the country, the Çankaya villa is at today, was a wine region that belonged to the Armenian jeweler and dealer Ohannes Kasabian. After the survivors of Kasabian family fled from Ankara and settled in Constantinople Opel, the house was confiscated by the Ottoman state and handed over to the Bulgurluzâde family.

Mustafa Kemal bought the building in 1921 by Tevfik Efendi Bulgurluzâde for 4,500 Turkish Lira. Having lived previously in the Ankara School of Agriculture and after his election as Speaker of the Grand National Assembly on 23 April 1920 in the villa of the railway bosses ( " Directorate house" ), Atatürk moved in early June 1921 in the " Çankaya villa ". Here, first his mother Zübeyde Hanim had lived, later Atatürk lived here with his wife Latife Uşşaki.

1924 took place the architect Mehmet Vedat Bey some renovations at the Kasabian villa, including the installation of a second storey for new bedroom, a window with the input frame at the front, a pantry and kitchen in the back of the house and a tower on the side. At 1936, the Camli Köşk (glass pavilion ) was built, a villa south of Kızılay, in which the sister of Atatürk, Makbule Atadan lived.
