The Cannonball River is a 217 km long tributary of the Missouri River in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of North Dakota.

It rises in the Little Missouri National Grassland, in the badlands north of Amidon in Slope County. It flows past southeasterly direction to New England, Mott and Burt. About 24 kilometers south-west of Shields joins the Cedar Creek one. His course then changes to a north-east direction and the river then forms the northern boundary of Sioux County and the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
