Sioux County (North Dakota)

Sioux County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fort Yates.

Geography

The County is located in southern North Dakota, adjacent to South Dakota and has an area of 2922 square kilometers, of which 89 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Morton County, Emmons County, Corson County ( South Dakota), Adams County and Grant County.

History

Sioux County was formed in 1915. It was named after the North American Indian people of the Sioux.

According to the census of 2000, there were 4,044 people in Sioux County in 1,095 households and 871 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer.
