The United States Census 1960 was the 18th census of the United States since 1790. It was conducted by the United States Census Bureau.
Results
At the reporting date on April 1, 1960 179 323 175 people lived in the United States. The population grew so that in comparison with 1950 by 18.5 percent. The most populous state was New York with 16.8 million inhabitants, the smallest of Alaska with 228,000. New York was thus the last time at a census, the most populous state in the 1970 collected Zenus was already California, the state with the largest population.
