Barnes County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Valley City.

Geography

The County is located in the central southeastern North Dakota and has an area of ​​3919 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Griggs County, Steele County, Cass County, Ransom County, LaMoure County and Stutsman County.

History

Barnes County was formed on January 4, 1873 Burbank County. On January 14, 1875 it was renamed in Barnes County. It was named after Alanson H. Barnes, an early judge in Dakota Territory.
