Steele County (North Dakota)
Steele County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Finley.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme east of North Dakota, is about 65 km from Minnesota away and has an area of 1853 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grand Forks County, Traill County, Cass County, Barnes County, Griggs County and Nelson County.
History
Steele County was formed in 1833. It was named for Edward H. Steele, a financial manager of the Red River Land Company.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Steele County 2,258 people in 923 households and 635 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.32 percent White, 0.04 percent African American, 0.62 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, and 0.22 percent from other races; 0.75 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.18 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 923 households out of which 29.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.3 percent were married couples living together, 4.4 percent were single mothers, 31.2 percent were non-families, 28.3 percent of all households and 13.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.01.
Based on the county the population was spread from 27.6 percent population under 18 years, 4.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 19.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 107.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were statistically 108.7 males.
The median income for a household was $ 35,757, and the median income for a family was $ 43,914. Males have a median income of $ 30,104, women $ 20,694. The per capita income was $ 17,601. 5.0 percent of families and 7.1 percent of families were below the poverty line. Of these, 8.0 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 3.6 percent are 65 years old.
