Morton County (North Dakota)

The Morton County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mandan.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of ​​5038 square kilometers, of which 49 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Oliver County, Burleigh County, Emmons County, Sioux County, Grant County, Stark County and Mercer County.

The 290 km long Heart River flows near Mandan in the Missouri River.

History

Morton County was formed in 1873. It was named after Oliver Hazard Perry Throck Morton, a governor of Indiana.
