Dickey County, North Dakota
The Dickey County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ellendale.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern North Dakota, on the south by South Dakota and has an area of 2957 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: LaMoure County, Ransom County, Sargent County, Brown County (South Dakota), McPherson County ( South Dakota) and McIntosh County.
History
Dickey County was formed in 1881. It was named after George H. Dickey, an early politicians and legislators in the Dakota Territory.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Dickey County 5,757 people in 2,283 households and 1,499 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.78 percent White, 0.10 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian, and 0.56 percent from other races; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.35 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,283 households out of which 27.9 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.0 percent were married couples living together, 4.9 percent were single mothers, 34.3 percent were non-families, 32.0 percent of all households and 17.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.99.
Based on the county the population was spread from 23.8 percent population under 18 years, 10.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 22.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 21.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 29,231, and the median income for a family was $ 36,682. Males have a median income of $ 26,914, women $ 15,668. The per capita income was $ 15,846. 11.6 percent of families and 14.8 percent of families were below the poverty line. Of these, 20.4 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 10.8 percent of those 65 years.
