Mercer County (North Dakota)
The Mercer County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stanton.
Geography
The County lies to the west of the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of 2881 square kilometers, of which 173 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: McLean County, Oliver County, Morton County, Stark County and Dunn County.
History
Mercer County was formed in 1875. It was named after William Henry Harrison Mercer, one of the first settlers in the area.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Mercer County 8,644 people in 3,346 households and 2,445 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.04 percent White, 0.05 percent African American, 2.00 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.38 percent Pacific Islander residents from the 0.12 percent from other races groups; 1.16 per cent were descended from two or more races. 0.37 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,346 households out of which 37.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.2 percent were married couples living together, 5.1 percent were single mothers, 26.9 percent were non-families, 24.8 percent of all households and 11.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.05.
Based on the county the population was spread from 29.1 percent population under 18 years, 4.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.9 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 42,269, and the median income for a family was $ 51,983. Males had a median income of $ 47,969, women $ 21,667. The per capita income was $ 18,256. 5.5 percent of families and 7.5 percent of families were below the poverty line. Of these, 5.2 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 20.9 percent of those 65 years.
