The Augustinian Canons of the Holy Victor (Latin: Congregation Victorina, French: La Congregation of Saint Victor, religious symbol: CRSV ) are a religious community of priests in the Roman Catholic Church. The Congregation is an independent member of the Confederation of Augustinian canons.

History

The beginning of the Order dates back to the year 1108. Guillaume de Champeaux, the archdeacon in the archdiocese of Paris decided to wear the habit of the Canons with some priests. In 1111 he retired to the Chapel of St. Victor, which is at Paris, back. This first church was rebuilt and expanded in this time, the collegiate church of Saint -Victor. Here he founded with his brothers a new congregation. My religious life was based on the rules of hl. Augustine. To their way of life was the study of liturgy and the daily celebration of Holy. Eucharist. Their job was in teaching students and the establishment of a large library. They soon founded the " School of St.. Victor " and led this theological educational institution in the 12th and 13th centuries to flowering (→ Victorines ). Among the best known representatives in this period include Hugh of St. Victor, Richard of St. Victor and Adam of St. Victor. After the political persecution and the community of the " Victorians " began had to dodge to England, Italy and Denmark. At regular intervals, the Order of chapter assembled in another country. The Renaissance of the Congregation began after the church reforms of the 11th century. Now she officially took over the monastic rules of Augustine and put a vow of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Expansion

Around Christmas 1968 came three Swiss canons to Champagne (Ardèche ). They had the intention of the " Congregation of St.. Victors " to connect and the spiritual heritage of St.. Victor implement within the meaning of the Second Vatican Council. The bishop gave them the episcopal approval and upon them the government of the monastery of Saint Pierre ( 1976 abbey applicable) in Champagne. In 1988, she received the reconfirmation and 1993, by the papal approbation to a congregation of pontifical right.

The end of 1980 were monks from Tanzania to Champagne, to learn about the life of the canons. They returned to Tanzania and established with the approval of the local bishop, the " Priory of Our Lady of Bethlehem " in Tanzania. Under the guidance of the canons of a church, a kindergarten, a hospital and a dormitory were built. Later facilities followed in Cameroon and Rwanda.
