Cantacuzino family

Cantacuzino (also: Cantacuzene ) is a Romanian noble family of Greek origin. It is the Romanian branch of the Byzantine imperial family of Cantacuzenus. Whether it is the successor of Demetrius I Asanes Cantacuzenus or by his brother Ioannes, is controversial among historians. It is certain that focus on the descendants of Maththaios Asanes Cantacuzenus. After the fall of Constantinople, the Byzantine family members were present in two Romanian principalities, both in Moldova and Wallachia.
