Canton Fair

The Canton Fair, Import and Export Fair Canton fully, German Canton Fair or Canton Fair, Chinese (simplified characters :广交会, traditional characters :广交会) is China's largest import and Export Commodities Fair in Guangzhou, China.

Importance

The the Foreign Trade Centre, a department of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, organized exhibition with more than 15,000 exhibitors and around USD 70 billion of trades ( 2008), the largest import and export commodities fair in China. The show is twice a year, each held in the second half of April and October, in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou. It has traditionally focuses on the export of goods, with the import of goods, services win as advertising or logistics in importance.

History

The Canton Fair has been held since the spring of 1957. At its inception - and well into the 1970s - she was the only China's trade with foreign business contacts. The city of Canton offered itself because of its proximity to the only 200 km away Hong Kong. Canton is also since the 19th century one of the export ports in China.

The Liuhua Exhibition Centre from the 1970s located in the historic city Yuexiu District near the train station.

Fairgrounds

For several years, the Canton Fair is shifted to the newly constructed from 2000 10.5 km ² Pazhou exhibition center in the south of the Pearl River located Haizhu District, as the old fairgrounds is congested, and is now used by smaller trade shows.
