The Caparo T1 at the British Motor Show 2006

The Caparo T1 is a British manufacturer of racing cars Caparo Vehicle Technologies, which is produced in a limited edition of 25 copies every year since the end of 2006.

Was developed by a team of T1 former employee of McLaren Cars ltd, which was also responsible for the development of the McLaren F1 part. The structure of T1 is similar to that of a Formula 1 car, but with two offset adjacent seats on the arches as a vehicle roof, a glass dome.

T1 is powered by a V8 engine with a displacement of 3.5 liters, dry sump lubrication, 423 kW ( 575 BHP ~ 582 hp) at 10,500 min-1 and 420 Nm at 9,000 min -1.

Together with a vehicle curb weight of 470 kg is obtained as a power to weight ratio of only about 1.11 kg / kW (0.81 kg / hp ) or more than 1200 hp per ton, which even surpasses that of a superbike. This accelerates the T1 in 2.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h and to accelerate from 0 to 100 mph (161 km / h), it requires less than 5 seconds.

Its top speed is initially specified by the manufacturer with " more than 322 km / h ". The vehicle transmission is sequential with switches on the steering wheel upshifts and downshifts requires 60 ms 30 ms. LEDs on the steering wheel to act as a gearshift point indicator.

In the graphs of lateral accelerations up to 3 g be achieved, which are made possible by the high pressure of the spoiler large at high speeds. Due to the expected fuel consumption is to be expected with a low range with a tank volume of 55 liters.

During test drives for the British Car Magazine Fifth Gear and Top Gear, there were several incidents with the car. When Jason Plato at the wheel, the car caught fire and Plato was injured. Some time later broke away during a test drive with the presenter of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, a part of the subfloor. In the program, Clarkson mentioned other problems with the vehicle. Thus, parts of the front suspension broke when a Dutch journalist sat at the wheel, and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed jammed the throttle open.
