The Cape Hallett is the northern tip of the Hallett Peninsula situated on the Ross Sea Viktoria country in East Antarctica. The Cape Hallett is an Antarctic oasis and was the location of a common scientific base of the United States and New Zealand during the International Geophysical Year in 1957, which was permanently manned until 1964, when a serious fire occurred. By 1973 it was further used as a summer base. Currently the site is being redeveloped by hazardous materials and stored in large tanks fuels and oils are removed. This project will take several years to complete.

To protect the large colony of Adelie penguins and the exceptionally species-rich Antarctic vegetation Cape Hallett is particularly protected area of Antarctica No. 106 ( Antarctic Specially Protected Area No. 106 ) and are not allowed to enter without permission.

1956 here the American ship USS Arneb was damaged by an ice floe during Operation Deep Freeze II.
