Cape Lookout (North Carolina)

Cape Lookout ( German chap Lookout ) is the southernmost point of the Outer Banks, a chain of islands off the east coast of the state of North Carolina in the United States of America. The low, sandy island chain of which the Cape is one, lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. The Cape referred to the western end of Onslow Bay and the eastern end of Raleigh Bay.

The cape is located in Carteret County, about 18 kilometers southeast of the town of Beaufort.

Parts of the Outer Banks, adjacent to the Cape, are part of a national nature reserve, the Cape Lookout National Seashore.

In the vicinity of the cape is the historic lighthouse Cape Lookout Lighthouse. He is painted with diamonds instead of the usual striped pattern and is the only lighthouse in the U.S. east coast, which is also operated during the day.
