Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae

The Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae is a 782 possibly during the national assembly to the lip sources of Charlemagne adopted text of the law. He served the Zwangschristianisierung the recently conquered Saxony and thus the strengthening of the Frankish power. The provisions adopted for this purpose were characterized by extreme hardness.

The absence of active conversion work and the simultaneous recovery of the church tithe have been sharply criticized by Alcuin, an important adviser of Charlemagne. Consequently, the desired effect did not materialize and the pagan ideas remained widespread. This eventually culminated in the 793 re rebellion of the Saxons, after the defeat of the Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae was replaced by the more moderate Capitulare saxonicum, which ushered in a gradual integration of the Saxons into the Frankish empire.
