Cappello romano

As a Saturno or Cappello romano ( jokingly Don Camillo hat ) refers to a common particularly in Italy headgear Roman clergyman. This hat is worn however only cassock. The hat is perfectly round and has a wide brim that is reminiscent of the rings of Saturn.

The hats of all clergy, with the exception of the Pope, are black. Bishops wear a gold - green hat cord with a green tassel from a gold - red Cardinals hat cord with red tassel. The headdress of the Pope is decorated with red and golden embroidery. Before the Second Vatican Council, there was also a white Saturno, as worn by John XXIII. and Paul VI.
