Capreolinae

Roe Deer ( Capreolus capreolus)

The Mirage deer ( Capreolinae or Odocoileinae ), in the English language also Neuwelthirsche, are a subfamily of the deer ( Cervidae ).

The approximately 20 species in this group are mostly native to the Americas. In Europe, the deer, the reindeer and the elk live.

Differences between illusion and real deer stags

In contrast to the genuine deer ( Cervinae ) Mirage deer have no brow tine and no tears pit.

Other differences lie in the construction of the limbs: Mirage deer are Telemetacarpalia, which means that only the distal (from foot away ) bone of the scaled second and fifth toes are present.
